  Partnerships, Scholarships, Service, and Recognition

The RCF sponsors several programs aimed at enhancing higher educational opportunities in the Rome, New York community.

Student/Teacher Achievement Recognition

The Student/Teacher Achievement Recognition (STAR) Awards Program honors area students and educators. Annually, the Foundation recognizes students from the New York State School for the Deaf, RCS, and RFA, along with the Most Influential Educator (MIE) each honoree feels has had the most significant influence on his or her life.

Other Programs

With grants from the Sears Family Foundation, the Foundation co-sponsored several programs administered by the Chamber's Education Committee, including:

  1. the Sophomore Mentoring Program for students at the Rome Free Academy, Rome Catholic School, and the NYS School for the Deaf.
  2. the "Be Cool" Substance Abuse Education Program in cooperation with Rome Memorial Hospital for fifth graders.
  3. the "Starting Off On The Right Foot" Program for college-bound high school graduates.
  4. the Traveling Art Exhibit presenting artwork of local elementary school students.

Improving Education

The Foundation has donated funds to Mohawk Valley Community College toward chairs for the dining room and laboratory equipment for the Rome Campus.

The Foundation has made a contribution to the Rome Teacher Center to help with classroom construction costs.

The Foundation has funded the tuition for guidance counselors at Rome Free Academy and Rome Catholic School to attend the Summer Institute of New York State College Admissions Counselors at Skidmore College.

The Foundation has donated computer software to local schools.
